At the end of March, I was fortunate enough to be interviewed and featured in the newsletter of my favorite watercolor company, Case For Making. CFM makes the most beautiful, vibrant, colors in San Francisco, California. I was introduced to the company by the fantastic painter and teacher, Lindsay Stripling. Two years ago, while on a family vacation, we made a pilgrimage from LA all the way to the foggy neighborhood of the Outer Sunset. The shop is an oasis of color and organization, with a beautifully curated selection of papers, color, and tools. CFM is a hub of creativity and connection. They bring the community together with classes both in-person and online.
Each October, CFM has a color challenge, “Colortober.” These color prompts are encouraging and provide an easy on-ramp for a 30 day project. If you haven’t attempted one of these challenges, whether 30 days or 100, I highly recommend it for finding a visual vocabulary. This past October, I made the 30 pieces shown below.
While I feel like it was ultimately rewarding, it was a CHALLENGE! Some of the colors just didn’t speak to me, but I was surprised what came out. Some of the days I felt uninspired.
Around the same time CFM had set up and opened their Marketplace. This was a fantastic way to sell some of my work and to shop artwork from other folks in the CFM making community. My work is part of the Marketplace here.
